Abstract:
Analysis of the stability of a solution to a system of nonlinear partial differential equations is a quite challenging task. I will show that thermodynamics can be helpful in the stability analysis. In particular I will discuss the question of the stability of the rest state (equilibrium) and the stability of a steady flow (non-equilibrium state) of a viscoelastic rate type fluid.
